Publishing licenses

Licenses can be issued to a variety of organisations for use of the publisher’s works. These uses can include reprinting e.g. in compilations, quoting excerpts, live performance, synchronisation on radio or television, recordings etc.

The process of license issue is automated using standard letters and paragraphs. Multiple licenses can be issued simultaneously e.g. where a performance may include photocopies and a recording.

The revenue from licenses is shared with the writer according to contractual agreement.

This section also includes the negotiating process for non-standard, larger agreements.

Royale also allows licenses to be issued on behalf of the publisher i.e. indirectly through an agency such as a mechanicals collection body. This still creates detailed transactions of the same form as direct licenses.
